Salalah the next MICE destination in GCC, says Minor Hotels

TTGMICE>>>

A new luxury hotel in Oman could help position Salalah as the new destination for the MICE market, says Bangkok-based Minor Hotels.

As the hotelier prepares for the Q3 opening of its Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara, the property’s general manager, James Hewitson, is anticipating a surge in MICE activity in the city as event planners seek out new locations to host meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

With the MICE sector worth $150 billion globally, Hewitson says Salalah, which is viewed as a relatively new destination by most, is well positioned to claim a slice of the “pie”.

“One of the requirements for any MICE organiser is usually a new destination,” explains Hewitson. “So a lot of people are now looking to broaden their horizons for their team or clients and excite them with a new destination. We need to focus on the fact that Salalah as a destination is new to a lot of people. I think we can place a luxury brand, [like Anantara], along with a new destination and really pull some of that $150 billion pie to Salalah.”
