Club Melbourne Ambassadors awarded for securing $50 million in economic impact for Victoria

Club Melbourne Ambassadors were last night awarded for securing 13 international conferences in 2015 – worth an estimated $50 million to the State of Victoria – at the program’s annual awards ceremony held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

This figure doubles the worth of conferences secured by Ambassadors in 2014, with the Club Melbourne Ambassador Program continuing to be a valuable asset for Victoria in its tenth year. 

Presenting at the awards ceremony, MCEC’s Chief Executive, Peter King acknowledged the significant contribution Ambassadors make through volunteering both their time and expertise to the program.  

“We are incredibly proud of our Ambassadors who work tirelessly with our team and partners to lead and deliver major international conferences for the state,” Mr King said. 

 “MCEC is the gathering hub of Melbourne – it is the place where people from around the world come to network, learn and create business opportunities.  

“Club Melbourne is such an important element in our strategic plan and we look forward to continuing our ‘Team Melbourne’ partnership to secure business events for the state,” Mr King added. 

Melbourne Convention Bureau’s Chief Executive Officer, Karen Bolinger reiterated how fortunate Melbourne is to have some of the world’s greatest minds conducting ground-breaking work in its city. 

“It is thanks to our genuine collaborative effort between MCEC, MCB and Local and State Government that we benefit from this intellectual capacity, by working together in true partnership to showcase why Melbourne is the premier destination in the Asia Pacific for business events,” Ms Bolinger said.

“Club Melbourne is one of the most influential ambassador programs in the world and reflects the calibre of Melbourne’s intellectual, medical, academic, business and cultural life. 

“Thank you to all the Ambassadors for their energy and commitment in supporting MCB and MCEC to secure these legacy lasting events for Melbourne.”

The 13 international conferences secured by Ambassadors in 2015 cover a broad range of fields including sport, engineering, medicine and science; all of which will be held in Melbourne over the next four years. 

Since the program’s inception, Club Melbourne Ambassadors have delivered 108 international conferences, contributing more than $620 million in economic impact to the state of Victoria. 

From 30 original Club Melbourne Ambassadors in 2005, the program now includes 131 leaders from a diverse range of fields who contribute to Victoria’s economic growth and international reputation.

Club Melbourne is owned and led by MCEC in collaboration with the Melbourne Convention Bureau and the Victorian State Government.
