The 4th annual Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair will be held in the Japanese ancient capital city of Kyoto

The 4th annual “Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair” (KYOMAF) will be held in the Japanese ancient capital city of Kyoto from 19th to 20th of September, 2015. The event will showcase the latest of Japanese manga and anime, and it is the largest of its kind in western Japan. The organizer is expecting to draw more than 40,000 visitors this year from Japan and abroad.

The main venue of the event is Miyako Messe, the largest exhibition centre in Kyoto located in the eastern part of Kyoto City. It will be divided into several zones including Exhibition Zone, Shopping Zone, Stage Shows, Business Seminar Zone and Food Zone. At the Exhibition Zone various publishers, anime producers, broadcasting companies, filmmakers, educational organisations and other enterprises and organisations related to manga and the anime industries will exhibit their latest offerings including a number of limited editions that will only be made available at the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair.
Those seeking commercial opportunities with the use of anime and manga characters can directly talk to the relevant counterparts regarding copy rights at the Business Negotiation Zone.
The admission fee for international tourists is free upon presenting their passports.
The Kyoto International Manga Museum will act as a supporting venue during KYOMAF. Opened in November 2006, it is the first comprehensive cultural centre for manga culture in Japan, with collections of manga related materials consisting of more than 300,000 items. The items feature modern Japanese manga, incorporating manga-related historical materials from the Meiji period (1868-1912) as well as comics from around the world. Admission fee is JPY 800 (USD 8) for an adult, JPY 300 (USD 3) for a Junior High School Student (Age 12-15) and JPY 100 (USD 1) for children below 12 years old.
This year will also mark 400 year anniversary of the Rimpa art that pioneered in the art village of Takagamine Kyoto. The exhibition will also showcase Rimpa and manga and anime with products manufactured from traditional industries up for sale.
Says Kyoto City Mayor and Rimpa 400 Year Celebration Festival Committee Member, Mr. Daisaku Kadokawa: “Even while passing down the special techniques and composition characteristic to it, Rimpa has been affected by the sensibilities of each generation that has carried the torch, and it has developed in not only paintings but also crafts, kimono and architecture. The beauty of Rimpa has fascinated many people over its long history.
Next year 400 years will have passed since Hon’ami Kōetsu, one of the fathers of Rimpa, built a village of the arts in Takagamine, Kyoto. Kyoto City would like to use this opportunity to further increase the appeal of this wonderful cultural art that is our pride, and also to put all of our efforts into widely spreading awareness of it as a stepping stone to Kyoto becoming the cultural capital of the world. I humbly ask of you all that you will continue to give us your support and cooperation towards this goal.”
